Taxes for PODers

Taxes for PODers

So you need a permit or license to sell POD products?

No,  You're considered a contractor or self-employed.

Should you become an LLC?

Some people choose to when they start making more money. There are some benefits such as protection for your personal assets if you get sued. Someone can still sue the business but not you personally. Why would you get sued? For using someone else's art for example.

If you do choose to become an LLC You will need to make a business bank account. You will need to have the business filed to make a bank account.

So as for your claiming your taxes.

* You'll get a 1099 tax form from Zazzle

* Once you get the form you can claim your earnings on either "other income" or on  a "Schedule C" so that you can claim deductibles on tax form. You can claim it on "Other income" but then you won't get to claim the deductibles.

* Deductible Income: Make sure to give your tax person all your receipts for expenses. Internet Bill, Computer Programs, Ads you paid for. New computer, tablet or apple pen. Any costs related to your business.

So to sum it up for those that don't sell a lot yet, you can keep it simple and just claim on "the other income"

Once you start making more money, like over 10,000 a year, make sure to keep track of expenses, track your sales vs expenses and do the Schedule C.

If you are making a lot of money and think you will have to pay in to taxes more than $1,000 at the end of the year, then you can pay into the IRS quarterly. You will have to contact your accountant to talk to them on how to do this or you can go straight to the IRS site and pay that way. This is more for people who make a lot of money even after deductions who will end up owing money at the end of the year. There is a form 1040ES that will help you to figure out how much you should pay in quarterly.
